Depends on the platform. PC and Mac makes it easy, Android is more difficult.
i am playing on PC, so i assume data would be able to be saved when you download or update to a new version ? if so how do i do it
Once you have the game downloaded saves are kept automatically in the user/appdata/renpy/game name folder, I believe it is. Although the appdata folder is generally hidden by windows by default.There's a forum answer for it here
i assume you just need to move the files from there ?
yep, save data i usually just data files being read by the program
