Well, the corruption theme is how I found this game. I usually don't play such rpg games and even when I play the story usually could be done without rpg mechanics. There I liked the mechanics of corruption and slow conditioned degradation. Little later I started to value how you could defeat enemies without resorting to corrupt choices if you plan for it. And bit by bit I lost interest in corruption of Aura. I understood it when I started to look at new scenes after update and skipped all of it. Now I want to beat the game on my terms.
I am not sure that would be the same for you but I think our initial impressions on the game were the same
