Try right clicking on the exe, properties, compatibility tab, and enable compatibility mode for Windows 8. Let me know if you have any luck with that.

Do any of the different renderers (the .bat files) work?
not sure what you mean by that each time I try them it just brings up and error code and when I try to open them by themselves it just opens it in Microsoft word
