That's an interesting topic you bring up.
Speaking as a developer, back in 2019 when we started production we made the assumption that our player base would consist of "gay and bisexual men", and with the benefit of hindsight we also assumed they'd be into the romance and sexual content too. Later on we added a SFW Mode, more for a matter of helping players who do not feel safe carrying explicit gay content in their devices.
We also heard feedback from people who liked the game but did not want to have a romantic relationship with Asterion, which I consider a high compliment. Still, the premise of the game started around a romance with Asterion, so that really has always been our top priority.
Later on we realized that our assumptions weren't entirely correct. Nowadays we even have straight readers, which we honestly thought would never happen, we even joked about it.
Ultimately I don't think we made a bad call in focusing on the kind of content we were passionate about, but it really is interesting how these assumptions we make about a project and its audience aren't exactly perfect, particularly with a LGBT audience in which we're always meeting incredibly diverse people.
