The sprint or a dash mechanic has been asked for by a few people and that may be something we are considering adding it once the scream jam is over! An introduction/tutorial coming from the witch would be a great touch. Unfortunately we were running out of time and put together a tutorial in the main menu. That could be something that gets added later on after the jam is over.
With your bug encounter, the hay stacks now work thanks to our amazing programmers fixing that issue and pushing out a update today.
