I'm not really a savior-complex fan, either, but that is so cute! I especially like the second one, as I almost imagine him saying, "Yeah, yeah, thanks for helping me in that fight. You can... stop petting me anytime."
Yeah the second one feels more on-brand for him. If he got in over his head and needed rescuing, he'd act too cool to admit it.
