Hi I need a little confirmation on Kai’s design. First I thought it was some sort of kimono/hanfu but then I saw there wasn’t a crossed collar.
But also his design makes me think of a (highly revisited) monk attire, mainly the belt tbh. So yea, what are the inspos behind Kai’s outfits I wanna see if I’m right
You're totes right Jasmine! Remember how last time you mentioned the lotus flower? Well, that's a key symbol in both Hinduism and Buddhism. The rest of his outfits also take a similar direction.
You can also see it in the open chest design since in both religions, the chest area is closely associated with the heart, which is symbolic of spiritual growth, compassion, and wisdom, also known as an embodiment of divine love and compassion (we also really wanted to showcase the tattoos LOL)
Our art director was the person who did his character design so a lot of thought went it it, hehe~~
So Kai really is the more spiritual-driven of the bunch, like the one who I think got the less connections to the material world. From the religious references(so from Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism ?), to the way he acts so detached and passive, even his blue-ish skin tone.
And concerning his tattoos, I can also see insects? Idk, I’ve also seen that they’ll be important in his route … do they symbolize anything or is it mainly for the horror aspect ?
Kai’s skin tone plays a really significant role in his storyline. I’m super curious to hear what you think it might be! (It’ll help me see if the twist catches you off guard!) As for the insects… I can’t give too much away, but they’re both symbolic and a source of horror~ (and it's gonna be torture to program because of the on/off toggle for it T~T)
Lots of wild assumptions incoming :
First, obviously the skin tone, that’s not the skin of an alive and breathing person with blood running in their veins.
Then, his demeanor. As I said he’s very not connected to the material world. His way of speaking himself in the 3rd person. Helios uses « one » mostly to, idk how to say it, makes his speech more formal and also emphasize his opinions. Kai uses the 3rd person as if he’s not really here.
Ofc, the numerous references to religion and especially what happens after death in said religions (lotus, reincarnation, Buddhism 🤔 am I connecting the dots)
Also, in the dialogue where our mc is getting mega jumped and she gets the choice to look pleadingly at a pixie (as if they’ll save her haha …). When picking Kai he says something like « I sense the funeral pyre drawing near ». I mean, the other pixies mostly said things like « nooo haha we will torture you some more » but Kai made a direct reference to death. Ok 🤔
And now, the insects. Who eats the bodies of our decomposing dead ? YOU GET IT. (Talking about eating the dead, are we getting eaten alive by centipedes in his route 👀?)
And I’m certain his veil also ties to the world of the dead etc. He makes me think of these depictions of spirits with translucent fabrics on them
Conclusion to me, Kai’s probably not totally alive. I mean just look at him
I’ll be frankly honest I have no idea what’s going to happen next ☠️ after all there’s probably 20-ish different endings that we can get there’s so much possibilities. My deductions can only make up ways for Sev to suffer if I look at the tws list. But other than that don’t worry, I have absolutely no idea what will happen.
All I know is that Helios might have some form of redemption (I mean, just look at the lack of trigger warning compared to the crimes against humanities that the others have going on) also that’s what you’ve been insinuating on some comments👀
Other than that : here are my feelings on who are the most likely to get some form of « « redemption » ». Shyloh of course that’s the fan favorite, Kai, Helios and Merka (based off vibes alone, he seems like a redeemable guy). The others tho ? Not so sure …
Now there’s something worth asking myself. Where does Rosario’s snake like characteristics come from ?

As for your question, Rosario's snake-like traits mostly come from his artistic design/character sheet— I just really wanted a character with a slit tongue (makes the kissing scene extra spicy). Then I figured, why not take it up a notch, especially since he can shapeshift~ It also ties in with the medicine thematics, and, well... snake oil solutions that he offers when he's really just up to his own tricks. Oh, and not gonna lie, I also really wanted to throw in a hemipenis LOL

I’m gonna need a ton of luck juggling both programming and editing—our numbers are low in both those areas, so I might end up doing a recruitment call to bring in some fresh faces soon. As for my personal faves (aside from Shyloh), it’d have to be the actual golden pixie too. I absolutely freaking looooove Helios ♥‿♥ he’s such a clever little manipulator, and writing his character is honestly a blast, since I need to use more brain juice (In general, I think I squeezed out everything in my brain working on the CA script). Plus, I get to whip out the dictionary and learn new words, haha. Kai used to be one of my faves, but after working on his route, my heart can’t quite handle it anymore T~T Now it’s more of a bittersweet affection.
