Logic suggests if there was no interest to continue this, there isn't any real interest to start it a second time in another format, much less continue that for any length of time.
I think this guy just found it was a really good source of money or didnt plan the story correctly and whent he last scene happens he said... "what the f* did I do? how can I even continue this?" and left everything.
