The coins are only be used in the shop from the main menu. You can buy 'starter mana' that gives you more mana at every start of the game. Yu can also spent it in the mechanic shop for tool to help you out.
Yeah, that's what I mean. When I go to the shop/mechanic, there are no coins for me to spend as though I didn't get after my previous run. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what.
