Is it intentional in W3-12 for the game to abruptly spawn a wave of over 40 enemies, containing every marine and necromancer, immediately after 2 catapults?

This seems to happen consistently and is followed up by other huge dump of enemies. There's been other levels where this happens but not anywhere near this extent and it seems like a big jump in difficulty from anything else.

I was pretty much stuck there until the recent patches nerfed some enemy units.  
Waiting out the   first big wave with almost full resources and  using the suck skill to get rid of them quickly worked for me in the end. After that play as normal and focus  the cannons.
