Bought the game in the winter bundle. You use an external download, which won't let me get it without downloading their app. Not good.

Not really, it's just as bad. It always says I can't download because too many people have done it. It's been that way with every game I've ever tried. Both methods suck.

you do not need to use the app to download from mega.
just visit the link in your web browser, select the file you want, and then click down load up the top.
the free/no-app download from mega can be pretty quick when the file is under 5gb, like this is so far

Or, just possibly, almost every time I try using Mega from the browser, it tells me game files are to large and I need to use the app.

not possibly. thats not how mega works.
you can download up to 5gb files without any issue, if they are larger than 5gb, you can still download, but you will have to wait a number of hours idle with the window open after the first 5gb.

Rather, my child, not true. Yet again, I went there and tried to download the 2.38 gb file. With both Firefox and Chrome, I get the error that really isn't a browser error.

are you using some kind of device that is designed for telephoning your mother on a sunday night?or are you using a device designed to play "computer" games?
even if its some kinda weird computer, cause is given to you right there - not using the right tool for the job. get a better browser, one that is capable of doing the job you require of it.
sounds like user error to me.
