I always only copy the saves folder to the new version and that works for me. Don't know whether this is the supposed way, though. Maybe try it without overwriting the cache folder?
I put the whole save files folder in the game folder, same with the cache. Normally it should work but dont see any saves. Maybe i forgot something?

EDIT: I found it. I had 2 saves folders and deleted the recent one. Thank you so much for ur help haha it works btw. Have a good day!
