I've yet to design anything around the final boss yet, but I have some assumptions I can make.  Pretty sure it'll act like essence collection right away, and if Amelia can succeed in doing that then it's a win.  Instead of ending right away, Amelia would have to walk back to her diary with the option to revisit predators along the way including the final boss again.  A revisit to the final boss would likely be much less intense.  The only idea I have right now is if Amelia does return to her diary after the final boss that the game ends with some dialogue about her returning home or something, but if I can think of a less generic ending I'll try to go with that.

You could make it a choice where she either decides to go home or stay. With an ending for both choices.
