Thanks for the feedback! It was for a game jam during a busy work month for me, so there's a lot I couldn't include, and as much as I would have loved to include cgs to show his cosplaying, his hobbies, etc my art isn't the best and time constraints meant some things had to be cut out. Definitely something I'm considering down the line since I plan to update this game after I finish my next game jam project though!

There's three main endings- the endings you get at the end based on your affection score with him, and then five early endings. I posted a link to walkthrough I made in the first dev log so if you wanted to get the others that's available! It's not too hard for most of them but one is ridiculous so it's a bit harder to get without a walkthrough lol. Most of the early endings are really short.

The artwork wasn't all that bad. I think it's just the design of his jacket that kinda sucked.
And it wouldn't be the first jacket in the world that makes people look fat. But someone who cosplays would presumably be better at fashion choices than that. I've met many cosplayers, and they tend to add a dash of that style into their everyday outfits.
(Like if you like Izaya, maybe use his iconic jacket, which is still somewhat normal, or add cuter stuff if you like cuter characters and whatnot.
I'll admit I am not expert on average people since I don't so much cosplay as changing my normal everyday wardrobe to fit my favorite character. lol)

You hinted that you can get married in what it said about the game, soooooo.... lol

Any chance he has a cat-loving brother instead? xD

Honestly tho; I think that if you kept developing the game a bit more, it could become a really great game.
I know there is many games entered into a Jam with word limits, where the creator keeps improving the game after the competition is over.
And some of those games turn into great, full-length games.

Your game is like the beginning of a really sweet romance game.
I normally am all for choices, but when it is all chat and no action, it can get a bit tedious with so many of them.
(Although I'd love more ending choices. But I see why a short game like yours only have 3.)

If you streamline them a little bit, and add more actual dates afterwards, you have a good recipe for success.

Because both the art and the writing was pretty good.

Lmao I cosplay, and so do some of my friends, and tbh it’s always a toss up on who wears over the top everyday outfits and gets all done up and gorgeous, and who wears the plainest tshirt and jeans in their day to day. One of my besties practically lives in a plain black oversized hoodie! 😂 Totally get what you mean that it could have shown off who he is more! I designed him in like an hour and just went with it because I got a bunch of work at my irl job dumped on me the same day before I could finish. Definitely a lot I could’ve done better! Looking at the sketches I did for the three original LIs I planned you can definitely see which one got to his second phase of design and which two didn’t haha 😂

Lmao yeah the early endings aren’t meant to be taken too seriously. They all have some dash of silly. It was going to be even more over the top originally because you can’t just stumble into it, but I decided to tone it down a bit. It was silly enough as is lmao. The main three are the ‘real’ endings.

No, he’s an only child. One of his best friends has a cat though! Not the one who’s getting a route out first though haha 😂

That’s sweet to say, thanks! I like the limitations, time limits, and community with game jams, so I’m still doing them, but I do plan to update this one to make it more what I wanted originally before the cuts had to come in. Going to work on it a bit between work and other jams. I will say though it’s a chatsim! Think like Blooming Panic, Killer Chat, etc. I don’t see it changing to a traditional VN with actual dates and stuff outside of in epilogues, sides stories, etc. It’s just the genre. Better ‘video calls’ would be on the todo list for additions though! Another of my regrettable cuts. It’s one of my favorite genres of visual novels, but I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!

I dressed like the Joker (green hair and all) for a full year once when I was obsessing over him, does that count? lol
Surprisingly I got several compliments and one guy asking me out. lol
(I was living in Camden at the time tho, in all fairness.... And after I moved to a smaller city, people kept asking if I worked at the theater. lol)

I sadly don't know anyone else who does cosplaying at this point tho. So maybe my knowledge is outdated. lol
I still have the Joker clothes I think, and Izaya's jacket.
But a lot of clothes have sadly been discarded as I move quite a lot.
(And I mean, across country borders.)
I rarely travel with more than a single bag, and there's a limit to how much I can stuff where I store things I don't bring.

For an hours work he looks good, I'll give you that.

I really hope you decide to get back to improving the game tho.
It sounds like you had some great plans for it, and I'd love to see them. ^_^

(And after my last comment where I told a soulmate game that my soulmate clearly doesn't exist even in games, I will LAUGH if one of your planned LI's is a satanic emo guy with yandere tendencies. xD)

I thought the ending was really sweet tho. In the homey and boring kinda way.
It helps that his bunny is evil. I can respect evil.

Yeeeeah.... I keep meaning to continue Blooming Panic because I'm curious, but I either got stuck or it bored me to tears, so I keep never getting around to it.

I think Killer Chat fucked up so it won't accept your name, and calls you 'player' or something.
No clue how to fix it. And it didn't seem like a chat program the whole 50 seconds I tried to play it. lol

The chat parts aren't bad, mind you.
But I still think it would be better if they were broken up here and there by a real date.
(And I'm all for NSFW content if that ever is an idea. lol)

I can see how someone who has a busy job would end up mainly chatting via text messages and video chat.
It actually makes sense in this game.

But chat games can get a bit monotonous.
That's where the -occasional- real dates come in.

All stories need a short break from certain things, to avoid becoming boring.
(I have no count for how many HP fanfic that stresses the reader out cuz Harry is angry 100% of the time, instead of mixing it up with softer moment, as one example.
Or stories that are so sugary sweet you feel like you're getting diabetes AND die of boredom because they never mix in darker emotions.)

So I don't mind the style your game is set up in, on it's own.
Just the monotony of a lack of breaks.
Although from the story it seems like you could manage to add those breaks in just fine, it even seemed like it would happen towards the ending.

Either way I look forward to see what you do next. ^_^

Lmao if you want it to, totally! Cosplay doesn't have to be big expensive pieces, or fancy prosthetics and props. My first cosplay was Misa Amane because I was blonde and had a lot of goth stuff on hand lmao!

Ah I'm sorry to hear that. At the end of the day everyone's different, and people who participate in a hobby are still people at the end of the day- all unique in their own ways!

Oh I definitely plan to! I already started and got a first draft of an intro for a second LI, and started mapping out some concepts for expanding on scenes already in game, buuuuuut then I saw a game jam I really wanted to participate in, so that's what I'm working on now. Sorry boys- the mean goth lady game gets priority lmao!

Lol Knox is more grunge/punk than goth, and I'm sorry to say, not a yandere. More blunt and blushy tsundere if I had to pick a trope to shove him in. If you want a satanic emo boy though I'd recommend looking into Killer Chat! Goreboy fits that to a T and it's a great game imo.

Lol it was meant to be a call back to him saying he liked that kind of thing when talking about love languages. Grayson just wants to relax and snuggle with his sweetie and his demonic overlord lmao

Huh, I've played through all the routes and didn't have that issue. Maybe it was a glitch that got patched out? Basically the entire game takes place on a totally not discord server so maybe you're thinking of a different game?

You might like A Date With Death then! It has traditional VN elements on top of the chatsim segments, and you can get dlc that adds nsfw content. I'm certainly not opposed to spicy scenes myself lmao

Yeah no I totally get it! Like I said, pure chat sims aren't for everyone! And yeah, I plan to make the epilogues actually playable like a traditional VN in the future. That was the original plan for them, but I didn't have time to code them in, make the ending CGs I wanted to, etc. I figured I'd leave them until I had time to do them properly, but then the year was ending and I still hadn't found the time, so I decided to just put them in like that instead of letting what I wrote for them go to waste.

There's a ton of games with demons, but not ONE with a satanist in it.
The concept isn't just unique and rare --it's non-existent.

When it came to the love language question, I actually was wondering if that'll play into the game later.
Like.... if you value gifts, he might give you some nice and fancy thing, or if you're more Words of Affirmation he may compliment you, and so on.
I was a little sad you could only pick one tho. Doesn't most have a combo of 2 that's pretty much the main ones? Or first and second favs?

Mmmh.... It's not all that different from your style, as far as I can see.
Especially when you incorporate the video chat style.
Talking on a phone is not the same as hanging out in real life (even in a game.)
But I think a combo would make a game more realistic when it's in a modern context.
(Especially when dating a workoholic. lol)

Your game is actually better.
I think a part of it is because you live up to the promise of the premise in your game.
A Date With Death I recall being a bit...disappointing.
And it is entirely possible that your writing is better and more realistic as well.
It's been a while since I played that game tho.

I'm placing my bet that Killer Chat fell prey to the curse hanging over me that makes all tech stuff die and go to limbo. >_>;
(Or rather; I used to date a tech guy who did everything pc related for me, so after that very long relationship ended and I have to do stuff myself, I realized I have no clue how to do anything, and keep fucking everything up. ^_^; )

I guess I'll just have to wait for you to finish making that jam then. :p

I just wish they had stuck with her being this genius as well. I mean, she found out who Light was BEFORE L! But after that they made her kind of a dumb blonde and never really utilized that part of her character imo. I preferred L anyways though. Love a gremlin.

Nah they say Misa is goth Lolita, but I'd say she's more soft goth, or mall goth. She only wears lolita style clothes once that I remember. Hot topic is basically the only place you can get things more that style in person, so that's where a lot of my clothes have come from throughout the years, so I'd be considered a mall goth. I don't like the gatekeepy origins though.

Lol, well it's for the Shitty Gal Jam, which runs until March 7th so I'll have at the very least a demo out once that's over. Fair warning- it's another chatsim lmao. Has more video calls though.

I'm pretty sure I have the steam version of a Date with Death. I don't think there's any differences.

With A Date with Death you do see him in person at least once. The thing with Lost and Found is that the only reason the MC and LI are even talking is because MC has their phone. If they met up really early there wouldn't be much reason to keep chatting. I could see Grayson maybe exchanging numbers, because they're a sweetie, but characters like Knox and Arturo (the other two planned LIs from the original concept) not so much. I'm sure I could figure something out though. It's worth putting on the games corkboard.

Smart people can be sexy, but they're rarely cute.
I think intelligence brings a sort of nihilistic/skeptical work view with it that just doesn't work well with cuteness.
Anyone who is intelligent and looks around in the world will find it very hard to be adorable and cheerful I think.
Hope requires either innocence or delusion.

I got the hang of downloading and unzipping a long time ago.

Eh hard disagree. Plenty of smart cuties! I think we just infantilize cuteness, and thus those who exude it a lot. Like irl I know plenty of bubbly people who are wicked smart, caught up on current events, all that. BUT to each their own!

Yeah I know Misa is smart, like I said she figured out who Kira was before L, the world class detective! I just think they didn't really do anything with that part of her character.

....in part because I just spent a few hours squealing over how adorably cute this guy in a game was every time he growled at me or threatened to kill me. lol

(And lets not even mention the fact that I just-so-happened to start to like Mr. Gap the moment he ate me in Homicipher. >_>
I worry about my taste in men.... and women.... Pretty much all of them is violent, stalker-ish, and/or homicidal. lol)

Try Devil Fashion / Devil Wear.
Depending on which country you live in, they may ship it.
For anything else, try Amazon.
It's a bit digging around depending on your style, but they have a lot of cool stuff there.
The only downside is that you need to know your size, and remember that asian sizes are tiny.
(And sadly I relay on a shop assistant to tell me my size, cuz I can never remember it. ^_^;
Not to mention that it has to be shipped overseas. Which tend to cost more than the clothes themselves.)

Also... Female clothes vary in sizes more than male clothes.
Shopping for male clothes is actually a lot easier to do online, since they're so standardized.
(But often also more boring, sadly.)

Oh, and don't let the name "Sweet Romance" fool you if you do.
