For a more detailed explanation, we need to look at the past of our protagonist, and understand who this Lora is. You are a military man who has seen a lot of shit in his short life, and killing has become routine for you.
And it seems like there's no point in moving on with your life. But all that changes with the appearance of one girl, a little ray that could fill that void in your heart, breathing life into your dead soul.
A lot of time has passed, you've grown weary of your past life, and then, one day, that ray of sunshine - disappears. Yes, you may have substitutes, but, can they completely replace it? That's the question.
And now that you have a chance to get that ray of sunshine back, if you were him, what would you do? Would you go to the meeting, or would you leave everything to fate, living the rest of your life alone?
Yes, definitely, at this point, our MC shows himself to be quite stupid. Instead of asking questions, he blindly followed his hopes, and throughout the whole prologue he acted recklessly. For which, at the end of the prologue, he paid the price.

But it's also done for the future growth of the character, to show what he's become as he makes his decisions.
