Do you think the problem could be with the adapter? Does it work with other games?
make sure you use an application in order to sync the controller, for PS4 controllers use DS4Windows etc.

You actually shouldn't use an application for the PS4 controller, it should work without it

for me it didn't, as soon as i synced it with an application it worked :)
