You can use all the mechanics before the tutorial tells you that you could, but the tutorial is there to emphasize when you need to use them. And I did not like the transitions, but time was stronger than me. Thanks for the feedback.
I know I was just thinking of Mark Browns (Game Makers Toolkit) video about not having to baby the player in the tutorial. I understand that time is our "enemy". It is all of our "enemy". I did not finish even close to what I wanted to finish in my game due to time.
