Hmm, I had a friend play test this after I submitted the game and the beginning of the game was the most challenging for him too.
There is a broom in one of the other rooms that you can pick up by using RMB when you get close enough to it - but you do have to search around for it. Perhaps I should have put it closer to the players starting position.
