Aww, that was nice but way too short and easy! Finished it on my first try without even realizing that the red aura was damaging the character. There were so few of those enemies that didn't even need to bother trying to avoid them.
Managed to actually die once on one of the thwomps near the end. The restart prompt was half off screen.
Also didn't even notice there was any audio since the volume was so low before seeing the comment below. And even after cranking the volume of my laptop to max, the audio was still quite quiet. There were also some sound effects missing. Like jumping and maybe some subtle cute walking sound.
The art was cute. The background pink looked a bit aggressive at first but I think it kinda grew on me since it didn't annoy me that much on the latter runs. Kinda funny how the almost just decorative healing point things and the tree at the end were the most polished looking things. The thwomp on the other hand looked a bit messy, pretty much the only think looks wise that could use some love. Of course some overall effects and feedback would be nice too. Or simply juice as it's called. Stuff like (more) particle effects, screen shake and so on. Punchy audio too. Just make the player "feel" the weight of their actions.
After now running through the game few times, some 2D platformer staples that would help immensely (mainly for when speed running). Jump buffering would be awesome. So if trying to jump before actually landing from previous jump, buffer the jump attempt for some fixed amount of frames and trigger the jump automatically after landing. The second one being coyote air so letting the player jump for a tiny amount of time after running off a ledge. These two things are just about helping the player do what they tried to do anyway. Their lousy human reflexes need some help! 😅 Of course there are loads of other similar things always done to make the games feel better and more fair but these two at least are kinda important and very easy to implement too.
Own jump button would have been nice as an alternative to using up arrow. Especially since it is so super easy to add alt keys on Godot. Maybe even WASD too, some people seem to be hardcore arrow key haters and prefer to play with their left hand even when the right hand has sweet FA to do.
Anyways, good job! 👍
