Nice defense shooter game! Love the pixelart!
A couple of suggestions:
- Give the player more room to shoot the asteroids. As the game is now no matter how fast the player target the asteroid/ufo he is going to get hit. This way each target choice will have meaning.
- draw the UFO on top of the asteroid. At least a couple of times I couldn't see the UFO "hidden" behind one of the big asteroid.
- Increase the strength of each upgrade (attack power). I couldn't "feel" the upgrade at least in the first 2 upgrade levels except the different canon's graphics.
Great job for your first game jam!

A quick suggestion after reading your dev log on the game page. Avoid doing an RPG as your 2nd jam game. RPGs need far more experience especially given the 3 weeks until the jam dealine

Thanks for the suggestions ! We'll be updating the game when we can.

And about the RPG I guess you're right, but participating in the Game Jam is beneficial to us because it forces us to work and has an end date. The jam entry will probably be a small demo for the game that we will continue to work on after the jam. Should we still try to make an RPG, or should we maybe do other types of games first ?

Thank you and have a great day !

Best try first simpler (from game mechanics perspective) game types like action games, platformers, etc. You can still make great games in those categories. You can easily see some great examples of this in this jam games.
RPG games are far more complex (even if you tone down the mechanics). Plus they require lot of time for balancing, testing, etc..
And time in a game jam is the one thing that you don't have ;-). Even in a one month game jam like game off.
You can always try later after you gained some jam experience.
In any case good luck with any future jam games. And keep making games!
