2 genius points here:
1. the escape of civilians in the open cutscene, explains where the enemies will come from.
2. when selecting an avatar to place, the time pauses.
notes:
- consider slowing the time down rather than stop it completely. might add some stress.
- consider how the level finishes
- consider the organization of the waves, and which wave can win. perhaps give a hard wave at some point.
- consider how to teach strategy to the player (winning strategy is placing Blocker on front and behind them 2 Gunners).
very nice work. i'd like to see this finished with more levels and more storyline :)
