I'm SO glad you have biz-dev experience! Most of the time, that is not something indies know much about and it is what ends up hurting them the most.

That said, one of the problems with any marketing info is that it often feels like "survivorship bias" (it worked for me, but ignore the 600 people who tried it and failed). If you have the funds and lack the interest, I'd recommend just hiring someone.
