  • The formatting could have used another pass. The entire section of rules seems to be "the basics," and I had some trouble figuring the game out because of it. Yes, I know it's only one page long, but it was still a bit of reading.
  • I appreciate that you took the time to build the world and theme.
  • The game seems to be based around getting VPs, which you get from taking the Eye back as well as killing enemies. Which is fair enough, perfectly functional. I assume that bringing the eye to your camp is what "capturing" counts as. Except.... what the hell is a camp? I don't see it described anywhere.
  • I had some real issues figuring out the turn structure. It seems to be that you select "two groups of infantry" but that isn't explained until later.  When you Join things, do you mean "two figures" or "two squads"? Do you join during games, before them?
  • The idea of going up and claiming the eye and then it randomly leaves seems very cruel. It almost dis-incentivizes being the first person to the Eye to claim it.
  • I'd love to hear where the Dual Purpose Design shows up. I believe that it does, I just can't quite figure out where.

Thank you so much for the criticism, allow me to explain.

First off, yeah, I didn't spend my time wisely, and didn't have time for another edit. I'll probably go back over and edit it if people like it. I kept thinking I had the way I was writing it, but then remembered that one rule I forgot, and then had to add more paragraphs. It's all a mess.

The world is something of mine I've had for nearly 6 years. I originally tried writing a movie script, then a tv show, and then a book. Still trying on the book, but I saw this as a good opportunity to see how people responded to the worldbuilding.

Nice catch on the whole camp thing, dang I forgot to add that. Your camp is a 6-inch radius area on the side of the playing field that you start in. I'll edit that if I get the chance.

Boy, I messed up when wording Joining troops. The idea is that, unlike other battle games I've seen, where players can be going through rows of minis, each getting a turn, each player basically moves 3 minis, and that's it.  Their commander, and two troops. It sucks when you've got a lot of troops, but that's where joining comes in. Joining is where 2 or more identical units that are adjacent form one group. Picture a line of marching soldiers. Basically, the figures may be many, but they act as one figure, or group. The trade off is that they have extremely limited maneuverability, which is very bad because of terrain. Originally, this was going to be an amazing and flushed out mechanic, but I ran out of time and I had to rush it. Joining counts as one action for an infantry unit, and only one unit uses their action to join with others. You join during the game, and though you can set yourself up to do it on your first turn, you cannot start joined up.

The Eye acts a little like the snitch in a game of Quidditch. It's all very random who gets it, which was kind of the point I had. You have a 1-in-6 chance of just claiming it, but a matching chance that it slips through your fingers and disappears. It also gives the slower armies a chance.

Also I want to note that I was going to have two other armies, the Dyzaens for the Allegiance, and the Gorams for the Overlords, but I didn't have room on the paper for all of their info.

The dual action part was really poorly done, but I think that one of the five armies does it perfectly. With the Shaala Kaazae, you get 2 things that work for the dual action aspect. You can attack with a sword. This is your best attack. But if you want to, you could Shield Bash instead, which deals less damage, but pushes away your foes. Or you could Shield Wall to avoid all damage, but in return you sacrifice your ability to attack that turn.

Also I guess the Eye's Ambush Ability also works. You sacrifice your turn to get a 1.5 turn, basically. The bad thing is that if you miss, your target gets to attack back, potentially taking the Eye.

In conclusion, yeah, it's a mess, and I don't think I understood the theme as well as I thought I did at the beginning of the jam.

so I just finished that long thing. I sent it, and then afterwords it hit me. Dangit I completely got the whole theme wrong. Lol oh well, I never expected to take 1st anyway lol

That's OK, I can't give you five stars but I appreciate the thought that went into it

Hey, no worries. I appreciate your honesty and the extensive list of notes. I definitely need to make some edits..
