Fun game with a really cool style, I especially liked the running animation and the atmosphere you put in the game with the particles. Main bit of feedback is adding death animations when you shoot enemies and perhaps checkpoints so you don't need to start at the beginning each time (falling down the pits is a bit too punishing). Great job!
