Yeah, due to time constraints, the story had to be cut down. This was the first chapter out of an intended three but, yeah, cutscenes take A LOT of time to do compared to level design so the game had to take a hit there :(
I've been there and totally understand. I'd love to play those other two chapters. Are you planning on finishing it? Hopefully you do since the game feels really good to play. I'll give you a follow.
