In The Ascent you're supposed to use two of the barrels to make a small tower with the second barrel being off center and then use them to boost yourself up by doing two jumps off the tower in quick succession.
I just noticed I never mentioned that you could do that, there's 11 more levels after that so if you wanna give it another go i hope the tip is helpful.
