Thanks for sharing, I remember playing this game since it was one of the few FPS linux shooters available at the time. 

I notice that you're account name is "open source reuploader." Have you talked to the devs about distributing this here? I know the game has an open license, but we have our own rules stating that we require the owner, or a representative, distributing games. I'd love to work with the devs to get an official page on itch.io. Especially since the way you've added the game, with an external link, means that the game can't be run through our app.

I was confused about where to put this since it isn't my game.

There are so many open source games that people could upload to itch.io, and I would love to be able to play Sauerbraten or Hedgewars from the itch app.

I also understand why you would not want to allow random people to upload their own HedgeWars builds.

But if open source uploader just "forked" Xonotic and called it "Shmonitic", that would be totally within the rules, right? Or any re-branded "fork" for that matter? Not that I'm advocating for asset flips! I just want to make sure I understand your concern. I think your concern is either people piggybacking on the success of certain games to distribute adware, misrepresenting themselves as the official developers, or a flood of near-identical uploads because I have as much right as the next guy to upload Xonotic to itch.io, as long as I honor the GPL.

But if I call my game "Shmonotic", then I won't mislead people who google for the official "Xonotic".

Assuming the project gives the right to do that, and they credit the original creators, then I don't see any issues with this approach. I think an even better approach would be to reach out to the original creators and encourage them to upload their works, or get permission to manage builds for their projects on itch.io.
