"see this game that you hate because it is exactly like what I just described"
k so you're saying I'll hate this game, got it
I took your original post as saying 'I'll hate this game because it's linear, despite offering some choices'. Personally, I took 'hate' as a strong word in that context, possibly unsuitable for your intentions - it felt as though you were, to use your own words, 'trashing' the game. Nobody is attempting to 'trash' you, rather they are trying to explain that a story can be good without having complex choices. You're free to have your own opinion on the matter, but please don't attempt to play the victim by insulting the game and then being incredibly shocked when people react negatively.
The problem I have with the game is that it offers the illusion of choice, which to me is a hell of a lot worse than not having any choices at all. Maybe that sentiment is not nearly as widespread as I think it is, but regardless, the statement "You don't need to have complex choice-making mechanics in a game for it to be good" doesn't at all conflict with my opinion. People can react negatively to me all they want, as long as they're reacting to my actual opinions and not some straw man argument they seemingly conjured out of thin air.
And you definitely can have choices in kinetic novels. But you need to say that. Look at Pervader -- The very first sentence of the description says "linear visual novel." I know that going in; I don't have any false expectations. Also, in Pervader, all of the choices actually make sense because the MC isn't overdeveloped. In this game, some of the choices are flat inaccurate if you want any semblance of coherence with the linear aspects of the character development. But that's just a matter of the game quality, not the game type.
This is all completely acceptable, but not what I was referring to in my reply. I was referring to the usage of strong words to convey your opinion. If I were a game maker, someone saying they're going to 'hate' a visual novel based on something as small as having choices in a linear (for now) story would frankly feel like a slap in the face. I get that you have a problem with the story, but don't go as far as to insult the game in its own comments before it's even had a chance to properly develop into a full-fledged game. We're literally in the third version of the game. Don't play attacked after insulting a game like that. Your opinion is fine, but your wording is not.
The correct words to convey any opinion are the most accurate words. I will die on this hill.
BTW, you are literally the first person on itch to even attempt to understand what my opinion actually is, which should be rather easy given that, yes, I use the most accurate words to convey it. It gets really fucking annoying that people just randomly assume I mean something completely different from what I said.
Ehhh I see I'm not really getting through to you. I think people are understanding what you're saying but more reacting to the phrasing which is then being taken the wrong way. I don't know, if your phrasing were better, then nobody would have taken it the wrong way? But it seems people have taken it the wrong way so here we are.
I don't imagine you're going to accept what I'm saying considering I've said it a few times now, but I'll try one more time. Your opinion is fine, your phrasing is questionable. I understand how you feel about the VN as a whole, but that doesn't totally justify immediately 'hating' the game, and especially not actively posting that in the game's own comments, where the game dev will likely see it. As a game dev, I imagine they have poured their heart and soul into this game. If they then proceeded to see someone insulting the game like that in their own comments, so they couldn't miss it if they tried, it would most likely be very soul-destroying. Much like if a musician posted a song, and people in the comments took to saying that the song was terrible. You're fully entitled to your opinion on a game, and you're fully entitled to give negative feedback. Saying that you hate the game falls way off the scale of negative feedback, straight into toxicity in my books. Now I don't know about you, but I'd find it not fun to deal with. Maybe consider presenting your opinion on this in a more light manner, rather than immediately going straight into the harsh language.
I'm not gonna reply to this again because I'll be honest, these messages are long and boring to write. I do hope you take into account what I'm saying because to be honest, I really am not trying to be angry at you or anything. I'm playing Devil's Advocate and trying to explain why I believe the way you phrased your comment was not as good as it could have been. If you choose to disagree, that's fine by me. At least I tried :)
Hope you have a great rest of your day!
I don't think most people are understanding what I'm saying, is the thing. Because when they describe what about my comments they didn't like, they're citing something that I didn't even say. At all.
It's entirely possible that people also don't like my phrasing, but that's not the problem I'm having nor is it the problem anyone besides you has raised.
