Nice start to an action platformer, but would like to see some better feedback for the player during gameplay.
PROS:
- Firing shots and landing hits feel impactful from the modified screen-shake and bullet audio.
- The game loop is firmly established early it's easy to fall into within a few seconds.
- Even with level design as early as it is you can see the potential for much more interesting design options.
CRITIQUES
- Breaking turrets is the only way to truly progress through the game, but I don't see any real visible connection between the turret objects and the door they're locking. If I were to just run past the first few turrets I could get to that door, but wouldn't necessarily realize that I need to destroy turrets I'd run past in order to progress. Would be good to see some lightup display over each door that progresses when you kill a turret and have players perform that action while both a turret and the door are near/in front of the player. That way the player did the thing and sees the reward immediately to better tutorialize the situation.
- Feels like there needs to be some camera work done when players encounter the boss at the end of the levels. Especially for bosses that don't stick around on a single screens worth of resolution. Feedback UI arrows or some preview window to show relative boss location would be good.
