Hi,

Thanks for the kind message. Since your download speeds will depend on your internet connection and how fast R18 servers will serve to you, this observation will depend on various factors.

However, I can tell you that recently R18 made changes which breaks download compatibility for the Itch.io client on some video titles. While the latest Itch.io version fixes this problem, the solution is far from ideal since the Itch.io branch uses a significantly older back-end and client framework. As a result, the speed at which R18 serves and negotiates with your client will be impacted. I am still looking for ways to improve this, but it is unlikely to get significantly better unless a complete back-port from the Patreon branch is done.

If download speeds are important to you, I would recommend using the Patreon edition since it does not suffer any of the limitations the Itch.io version has. In addition, the updated framework allows for additional features (such as 4K and VR downloading) which are not possible on the older engine.

Edit: Still looking over the code to see where possible improvements could be made, but try re-downloading the latest version and see if you get any better results.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the program again and the symptoms are still there. After upgrading to 1.7.3 my download speed dropped by half.

Hi again,

Unfortunately it is likely that only minor improvements will be found. The proper way to address these performance issues is to replace the back-end code with a newer framework (rather than cobbling patches and workarounds together). This has been done a long while ago on the Patreon branch, but not the itch.io branch which is under legacy support only. If top speed and performance is absolutely important to you, I would humbly suggest trying the Patreon version, as it is vastly superior in many ways.
