I would like to say I enjoyed this short game a lot and wanted to give an in-depth review for it and some idea's if your team decides to continue to work on this project

Problems/Bugs:

  1. I clipped out the world by just walking to the right, there is a barrier on the left but not the right side of the start
  2. the harpoon does the same thing as the rock breaker in terms of breaking except it can't break the Nickel Iron  Alloy
  3. The enemies have weird hitboxes that two affects, I could hit them with both the rock breaker and the harpoon and they would do damage but the rock breaker would sometimes not register a hit but that could just be me missing and not knowing it.  The harpoon would either hit them and come back to me or just drag me to them and I would take damage
  4. I had an issue in the reef where all the walls did damage (even area's where there aren't any spikes) but it was fixed after I died
  5. The thrusters on the Hynobius has no bar so I didn't know how long I could use them
  6. The transition from area to area is nice but when I died the area didn't load properly so I had to fly back to the last zone for the game to load the area properly
  7. Some color contrast on the spikes in the reef zone because I had trouble seeing them at first but that just might be me
  8. for some reason in the beginning filler text, the game can't fully display f's but that's only in the last line
  9. The first Nickel Iron Alloy you come across can be skipped if the player goes left instead of down at the first fork in the game. I skipped it in my first play-through and just found them by pure chance and figured out what they did by myself. In my second playthrough though I went the other way and actually got the dialogue

Positives

  1. I loved the sprite animations for the Hynobius and the sprite models and dialogue were sound and solid
  2. I like how instead of a map it's just a depth meter to give the sense of no return
  3. The chunk of health you gave was perfect, it gives you time to notice that you can't fight the last enemy and you should just be running
  4. I love the sounds that were used for the Hynobius, specifically the chain increasing in pitch the closer you get to the actual harpoon
  5. Hand's down the OST just goes off with a beautiful underwater steampunk jam
  6. The first three zones are small but packed with rich dialogue and music

Game ideas if you decide to continue

  1. if you guys do decide to make this into a full-fledged game my only request would be upgrades like a stronger harpoon, strafe booster that costs fuel so you can't spam them, maybe some sort of stasis launcher that could freeze the enemies that you can't kill.
  2. Maybe a mega man thing with the ship with the alien with it you find broken ships in certain areas and take the parts of off their hynobuis's and put them onto yours

To end this off, I know there are more problems than positives but I truly believe that this was a great demo game

Thanks for the feedback! Very glad you still liked the game despite its issues - towards the end of the jam we had to cut corners like it was crunch time at the circle factory. With any luck we'll do a post-jam update with bug fixes and QoL improvements.
