[January 19, 2021, 4:56 AM - v0.0.4]
Pixel artists, storytellers, and everyone of the sort- get ready!!
The v0.0.4 update to "Battery Chad Builder 2: Topdown Tileset" is an absolute game changer!!
I usually save the best, coolest and biggest additions in the update for the end of the post. But screw it... I can't help myself!
Added Costume Painter!
Now when you boot up Battery Chad Builder 2: Topdown Tileset, you'll notice a new option on the menu screen called "Costume Painter".
So, what is Costume Painter? What does it do? Well, Costume Painter allows you to draw and animate a character sprite! You have a 16x16 canvas and 7 frames (1 frame standing animation, 2 frame animations for walking, idling and attacking) to work with! Any sprite you can imagine can be made with this editor!
Once you're done, you can save your sprite to a "Costume Code", which is a string of 1793 characters that you're recommended to save somewhere like a text document.
You can use the "Test Animations" button to see a preview of what your sprite would look like in action! Simply press WASD, J or K while in "Test Animations" mode to see your creation in motion.
Once you have a Costume Code, you can load it back into the Costume Painter and edit it later. But is that all you can do? Of course not! Keep reading...
Added Makeover Mask!
If the NPC Dialogue for a screen is set to a Costume Code, and Chad collects this item on that screen, he'll take on the appearance of that costume! Chad will maintain this appearance until he comes into contact with the alternate form of the Makeover Mask, which de-activates any currently active costumes.
Yes, that means you can have custom player sprites in your levels! And not only that, but you can have multiple! You can have one per screen in your level!
I think this will also go a long way for allowing RPG levels to be made with this game! As now, you can essentially have the player play as any character you can think of, or even cycle through many of them! Really, your own creativity is the limit here!
Heck, this technically also opens the gates for fanmade projects using characters outside the Battery Chad universe!!
I am SO SO excited to see what people might make using this new update!! Please, if you haven't already, there's no better time than now to give this game a go!
As mentioned, this isn't the only new addition for this update. However, it is by far the biggest.
Added Anti-Shock Pill!
This new Power Pill will do quite the opposite- it will take Chad's power away! While this item is active, Chad won't be able to use his signature shock attack, meaning he can't activate switches, hurt most enemies, or anything of the sort on his own. This will allow for the level creator to have more control over the player's abilities, or maybe it can help better immerse a player into a costume!
Added Powergate!
This item will be a solid collision for Chad unless he has a Power Pill active! It also has an alternate form that works the other way around.
And there's more on the way!
This update was actually originally going to be much larger, with many other items that I still plan to add. However, I really wanted to give the new costumes feature some time to shine on its own! I mean, just think of all the endless creative possibilities this allows for!! :D
I'll be adding a "Costume Codes" channel to the official Battery Chad Community, where users can share their custom costumes! Here, I'll get the ball rolling with a Battery Bob costume on the house. :)
Stay tuned! And of course, as always... shock the world!!
[January 29, 2021, 10:21 AM - v0.0.5]
The v0.0.5 update to "Battery Chad Builder 2: Topdown Tileset" will allow you to build NPCs, monsters, and even bosses!! Read all about it...
The new update is here, and it will expand upon the Costume Codes feature added in the previous update! First, some bug fixes.
- Fixed glitch where the lightbulb could be obtained from a different screen
- Fixed glitch where bosses could hurt Chad during a loading screen
- Fixed other glitches that I honestly just don't remember what they were
Alright, now onto the exciting stuff!!
Added Custom NPC!
Yes, that's right-- you can now have custom NPCs in your levels, with a custom name and custom sprites!!
To assign a costume to a Custom NPC, simply paste a Costume Code into the NPC Dialogue prompt and then type out what you want the Custom NPC to say!
Once you press enter, you'll be prompted to name your NPC.
And voila! A custom NPC in your level!
You can make your NPCs look however you want, and there can be one for each screen!
I believe this feature will again go a long way in allowing for RPG levels, as being able to have your own characters to talk to will really help you to tell a story that's your very own!
Added Masked Menace!
This new foe- as the name implies- is wearing a mask! And you know what that means- you can apply a Costume Code to this enemy! Simply set the NPC dialogue to a Costume Code!
This enemy even has 3 different forms of behaviour!
In the first form, the enemy will wander aimlessly until Chad defeats it with his shock attack! In the second form, the enemy will stay still in one spot, and periodically shoot a projectile at Chad! In the third form, the enemy will move towards Chad, but periodically stop to shoot a projectile at him!
I believe that this will also go a long way in allowing players to tell their own unique stories! Not only can you now have a monster that looks like anything, but there are even a good variety of options for how the monster behaves!
Added Head Honcho!
This brand-new boss will stand still until Chad gets too close, at which point it will start coming after him! Periodically it will stop and rest, at which point Chad can damage it with his shock attack- however, on normal or hard difficulty, there's a chance it will shoot deadly fire at Chad instead!
And- show of hands, who saw this coming?- you can assign a Costume Code to this new boss enemy!
Once again, as with all the other additions, I believe that it will go a long way for storytelling purposes to have a custom boss in the game! It can allow for players to make their own climactic sections in a level!
And there's more on the way!
Like last time, I still have more additions planned for this game, but I wanna give this update in particular some time alone in the spotlight. In the last update, where I merely added the player costumes, I said "I mean, just think of all the endless creative possibilities this allows for!! :D". Well, this update is that on steroids. You can now have a custom character fight a custom monster, boss, or talk to a custom NPC. This game is becoming more and more like a starting-off point for game development with each update, and I truly do hope to see some awesome user-made content!!
Stay tuned! And of course, as always... shock the world!!
