Well to be accurate, in Adastra the Parents show us the moment when we are dying and ask if we wish to prevent this. This means they always intended for the MC to get his throat cut as the way to emotionally blackmail Amicus into submitting (not what I would consider "benevolent"). 

If the MC thought it through a bit more he would realize this, and realize that following the Parents orders doesn't mean he or others won't get hurt. It's just that the Parents get the results they wanted.

I believe they were desperate to get results, as their "future vision" is so clouded that they couldn't even prevent Marco of getting sick. Not perfect and not benevolent if the plan is crumbling like a cookie.
