What is the full error message?
Is the game in a write-protected (=read-only) folder or on a USB stick? In that case you'd need to change the folder settings or move the entire game folder somewhere else.
You could also try to download the full game again, since that solves all cases of broken or missing files. You can continue your progress by copying the entire save folder from the old game version to the new game version.
