Really enjoyed this game! An interesting variation of a classic movement pattern. You managed to pack a lot of adventure in a tiny world, with varied landscapes, puzzles and encounters. Kudos to you! It also looks pretty good. I am usually not a fan of mixing pixel sizes, but it works well here and helps differentiate characters and landscapes.
Thank you! I was getting some criticism about mixing pixel sizes (8x8 environment and 16x16 characters) so I was wondering what I could possibly do to fix it, perhaps there is some good method of blending it better.
I was inspired by 2048 initially and it just kind of morphed into an adventure game, I tried using environmental storytelling where I split areas into separate parts to tease future content/create foreshadowing and make the player retrace across old areas. Though I tried to be as non-intrusive as possible in terms of storytelling it was the aspect I put the most effort in to make it all fit together, but I'm thinking it would be good to add a short animation when you first enter the area with the city gate with the hero/king with his back turned entering the open gate which closes behind him.
