I don't think you're bad at the game. I did a bad job explaining the point. Sounds like some tutorial prompts would have been a good thing to add. Next time.
The goal is really to make all the people into ghosts. The drivers will help out a bit, but after you become a ghost, you can go around possessing people with the space key and using them to run people down, collide with propane tanks, set them on fire, and generally causing a little mayhem.
