The key was for the basement, I should make it more apparent by placing a lock on it too or playing a key sound when You open it, or placing the basement door before the kitchen so that way You get the prompt about needing a key before finding one.

I don't like the idea of jumpscares, but after I learn enough of blender there will 100% be something real in the darkness, although I guess You could call a sudden electricity break, or glass falling over on the floor because of the wind a jumpscare so maybe, but I really dislike scary face + loud noise ones - yea they make you jump but also aren't the type of fear that I wanted to convey in my games.
