When I try to run the game, I am met with a blank white screen with no change. I think the game is broken.

There is sadly an issue—itch.io doesn't handle root paths. We didn't realize the game was broken on itch's servers because it worked in all of our test deploys, and itch was so unreliable at time of submission that we thought the broken-ness was just the servers failing to load. Turns out that's not the case.

I have a link to a working instance of the game, but I was told that linking externally is not allowed. It's not a new version of the game—it's the same build, just deployed to an environment that works, but I expect it'll still get seen as a cop out. Then again, we're certainly not getting anywhere with a broken build, so maybe we might as well. I'll chat with my partner.

Thank you so much for your interest! Sorry for the inconvenience. In a few days we'll polish up some of the rest and make it freely available no matter what happens.

We are choosing to give people the chance to actually see it. It's a small game, but it reveals some interesting constructions. We've made the whole thing open source to educate anyone else who wants to explore making procedurally generated text-based web games.

Demo link is here: https://paarthenon.github.io/soothesayer/

And the full source code is available: https://github.com/paarthenon/soothesayer

We understand the entry won't be judged based on the build at this link, but we value the feedback regardless of gmtk rating.
