No, technically… no, you don't need to defeat the forest dungeon boss to proceed (in fact, she tells you to simply grab the Sigil and go, if memory serves me right).There is a mini-boss before that, though.
You only have to defeat the boss’ maid which is a mini boss and head to her room and grab the sigil.
