As rugeboy said, checkpoints would be very welcome. I got stuck on the falling # part and had to start from the beggining..

I found it very clever how the shot was an * and became "v" to show destruction, and how the enemies crumbled when dying! The visual glow was nice to differentiate ascii objects from the background.

Speaking of background, the whole PC intro was not necessary and kinda broke the rules (I doubt it was created only with ASCII characters), and the platforms also seemed not made from text. You showed talent and I'm sure you could come up with a clever way to make a platform with ascii...

Good submission, but the use of non-ascii assets hold the game back (for this jam, of course). If these parts were indeed made of text characters, please let me know!

Thanks for the feedback. The pc was added to illustrate old computers that used DOS and how the interface was since that is where i got the idea from,I thought adding the pc wouldn’t break the rule since it was more of a background element and wasn’t part of the main game,Guess i was wrong. This is my first attempted game jam so I’m not really familiar with theme’s and rules.

The platform was made using underscore characters that were stretched and rotated to look like a platform,I guess it really wasn’t noticeable since the entire platform was the same color.

Thanks for playing

Nice to know that the platforms were made with ascii! the "hapax" submission also have some nice elements drawn with letters that almost disappear on the big picture. They found a way to show this, making the level build itself at the beginning, but your way is also valid!

On the PC at the beginning, I'm not the organizer to enforce rules, so I don't know how they will deal with it. Maybe they agree with you that it is only illustrative and doesn't impact the gameplay :)
