Semi-on-the-fly remarks:
- As I have an interest in foreign languages including Russian (I am using Duolingo), I wonder whether you wrote ‘we do the whole game’ while meaning ‘we will do the whole game’ because of the perfective/imperfective issue. ;)
- I like the cute ‘music box’ music! :)
- I am not sure that I understand what the ‘promotion box’ in the instructions is…
- Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard). This makes it rather hard for me to play the game, but fortunately, the arrow keys are enabled.
- I like the character’s walking animation, the way he raises his legs is neatly detailed. :)
- I notice the character looks at the mouse, but only throws vertically; does the mouse have a gameplay usefulness?
- Ah, I thought you could jump, but you can move along depth! I like it. :)
- It is sometimes a bit hard to catch the fish, but maybe this boils down to knowing precisely where you have to put the feet to detect the ponds.
- What happens when your ‘wet-o-meter’ / humidity/water level goes to zero? It did not seem to change anything for me. Oh, spoke too soon, I just lost. X)
- I got the yellow raincoat when touched by the dark-grey cloud; I am unsure if this is a coincidence or not. I am also unsure of what the effect is (the ‘promotion box’??), as the water meter continues to go down. Maybe invincibility?
Ah, shortly after, the cloud does drop a raincoat down, so I can see it! :) - By the way, no walking animation when wearing the raincoat? I guess you lacked the time. ;)
- Possible bug: at some point, my life goes down continuously for no reason. Maybe because I switched between windows?
- WOW, that Maria cloud goes into super fast mode when reaching about mid-life! :o
- Lost at 2 or 3 boss health points still there; this is going so fast!
I think two things make the game hard: the cloud’s speed increase, and the way water is managed (I am still not sure whether standing in ponds has an influence). I did not beat the game (and want to stay reasonable about the amount of time I spend on each game!! I tend to overdo it).
Conclusion: the fight seems rather well balanced as a boss fight: just a bit too hard to win on your first attempt, probably beatable after some more. :) The way you implemented the limitation amounts to a boss/enemy pattern (using a cloud is witty), which is classic in itself. I also think the game is cute overall. :) On the ergonomics side, I would advise showing visually or/and with audio when a pond is ‘reachable’ by the character (for example, changing its outline colour).
Small question: what happens when you beat Maria? :)
(By the way, just putting here that my game is pending until I get the submission form.)
