The game was great you should be proud no matter where you place. My first game jam I got nearly last place but was still super excited to keep making more games! And yeah you don't always have to update games as well if it's too much work. I just work on what excites me, and usually view game jam games as marks of my progress rather than making them fully fleshed out games. but yeah everyone does it definetly.
