The game is full of heart! I love the cozy but somewhat mysterious art style, everything reflects the idea of dementia in a comforting yet ominous way. Not to mention the quantity of animations and art is impressive. The VFX and attention to detail with subtle changes sold the effect further. Some UI animations and graphics would immerse the player further into the game and make it more personal. Well put together, powerful message!
Nice score! Thank you for all of the feedback, I really appreciate the time you spent on reviewing. The bombs touching was in fact a personal choice (in fact it was kind of a pain to add). I thought it would add another level of strategy but it seems to have only made the game more confusing especially due to the game's simplicity. I'm going to be honest, my UI system was a bit of a mess and I didn't have the patience to clean it up, (I may update it after the jam however). Thank you again for playing. I will have to return the favor to you!
Am looking for feedback in all directions to improve the game! https://coding-kricket.itch.io/sunny-street
The bombs felt nice to throw and the graphics gave the game a lot of character. The flying mechanic was well executed. It would be helpful if the bomb had a visual radius so the player could get a feel for when they would take damage. The level progression was nice and the map design led to some fun moments. I enjoyed the music too. I loved the players hat flip animation. Great submission!
The procedural generation was what really sold the game in my opinion. This game has a TON of potential. The ball mechanic was executed really nicely. I think it would be beneficial to have a little popup in the menu when hovering over a ball to see its effects. The art was cohesive and strengthened the games presentation. I would love to see this expanded upon!
Great use of the theme! I enjoyed the fast-paced multi-task gameplay of defending and aiding the bike's journey. The calming setting fit the music well and the art really fit the game's identity. The bike's movement was well designed and felt fair to the player. If you are to continue development, more sound effects and shaders would be a nice touch! Congratulations on your first game, it was well put together!
Odd... The cannonballs blow up when colliding with each other. Maybe you are redirecting cannonballs to the cannons themselves and when a cannon goes off at the right moment the game ends? The screen should zoom in around the cause of death whenever you die so that may explain the deaths too. Thanks for playing!
Since the Jam is officially over, I would love to hear developer's experiences. What went well? What didn't go well?
I found this jam as an excellent starting point into vector graphics and had a ton of fun coming creating vintage-style music It was also my first time participating with Godot which I am finding to be a lot more suited to my needs compared to Unity. I felt like I met my time constraints pretty decently and avoided the extreme pressure I sometimes get in jams. I have come across some well thought out games and clever takes on the theme and am excited to see more.
Any feedback would be appreciated! https://coding-kricket.itch.io/sunny-street
