(I am now in a rush to test as many games as possible to help, so please do not mind the cursory reviewing style.)
- I like the title screen music! :)
- Already quite many details (loading screen, retro sounds…).
- Very specific visuals! A mix between retro / Game Boy feel and high resolution (I am thinking of the pawn’s outline). Original and nice.
- In-game tutorial, great.
- Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard).
- Small possible bug: jumping sound even after the mid-air jump.
- You can fall from the left of the beginning. First thing that happened to me, I have the soul of a beta tester. X) No key to restart? Nothing serious, but I have to relaunch the game.
- Just to let you know, misspelling ‘Borred’ -> ‘Bored’, and some other errors.
- The pawn’s tilt depending on movement is a great idea.
- Ground Pound feels very Mario/Yoshi-esque. ;)
- The wall jump feels right to do; playability seems good. BUT you can easily collide with the roof.
- Start button: I like how you threw classic mouse interface in the mix. :)
- I managed to wall-jump my way to the domino, passing above the wall, instead of clicking on the button.
- About the battle: some more sounds would help better understand who takes a hit.
- Lost; apparent bug: loading screen, but nothing happens (except the loading sound that repeats itself by bursts of around five). And the game does not load, so relaunching.
- Also, jumping sound on the title screen.
- Oh, conquered the domino, but lost a heart after! :o
- I guessed W to enter the door thanks to other games (thank you, Mario!), but do not hesitate showing the control.
- Killed after having defeated the first domino from level 2: I think you still get hits (and quick ones, at that!!) when a domino is already beaten! Is this on purpose or not? I would advise either deactivating it, or making it clearer (see previous remark on sounds).
- Game will apparently never load again after a defeat.
- You can collide several times with the manga boxes to receive additional mangas! Is this on purpose?
- Suddenly became invisible near the first hole of the second level, where the rightward domino hade come. Loading screen… <:( The fact that I have to restart the game from scratch each time is a problem; I will be extra cautious from now on, but this means I may miss some things by exploring less.
- End of level 2: I wonder whether the fire can damage you, but apparently, this is a decoration in the style of Bowser’s castle. :)
- Some collisions can make it a bit hard to navigate ; this may have to do with the pawn’s elongated shape.
- Managed to beat level 3 without crossing path with an enemy by staying up; I like the idea of using the boxes as temporary platforms!
- Nice jumping effect with the pawn lady. XD :) This pawn princess reminds me of Mario too!
- What were the mangas for, in the end?? (Apart from the theme. XD)
- As for the constraint, seeing what you wrote as the game jam answer, you can get frozen by dominoes, but I did not really notice it; this may be due to the fighting gameplay problems. Nevertheless, I do not feel that this mechanic is very central to the game; maybe you could have used the fact that you chose a pawn to have it do something while stuck (in a mechanism??), for example.
I think the fighting gameplay and collisions would have to be tidied up, but apart from that, there is both a nice style and platform basis; maybe you can extend the game, including making use of those mangas! ;)
(By the way, just putting here that my game is pending until I get the submission form.)
