Sorry I wasn't able to beat the final boss. I think I would have pushed through if the camera controls handled better, I know it's the point that the camera is hard to swing around, and I even got quite good at it at the end, but the phase where the purple things shoot out of the ground I just can't look around fast enough to see where they are coming from and I end up dying.
Another thing that I found extremely frustrating is the item pickup system. It would be fine if it worked correctly but it only works in specific viewing angles and since you need to stand at a certain distance to it, the stuff you want to pick up is always at the bottom of the screen.
There are also a few sequences where you can't see what is directly in front of you because you are on a slope.
The simple way to fix this is by letting the player look up and down. That alone would have made this 100 times more playable.
I feel like a cool way to implement the camera that would fit the game would have been by letting me drag it with right click or something.
But I also respect the decision to not give the player a lot control over the camera. The game just should have been better designed around that limitation, meaning no slopes, and no mechanics where you need to look around quickly. A 180 degree turn button would also helped a lot for the combat.
If you could fix the picking up resources problem and maybe add a turn button that alone would improve this game a lot. Some ideas for a post jam version maybe ?
Aside from these problems however I loved this game. Sure it's not really that cozy, more like absolutely terrifying, but I loved that about it. I like the approach to combat, it's like a mix of a game like for honor and resident evil 4.
The level design is also really excellent. It was never confusing, yet always made me feel like I was lost and I was able to build a mental map of the levels rather quickly.
The art is also very charming and the cutscenes are really, really fantastic. (Even though I wish you could skip them when failing at the last boss on repeat).
Another comment mentioned that it would be cool to switch through the modes by hitting shortcuts on the keyboard and I absolutely agree that that would be a good inclusion.
Overall I really enjoyed this game, even though it got really frustrating at the end. It's very well made and I feel like with just a little more polish this could go from a good to an amazing game.
This review got quite long, but that just happens when there is a lot to say about a game. Thanks for making it.
