Hey, I love your game and I recently had a spark of creativity which led me to trying to create my own.
I really like the style of your game and my question is this- where did you get the assets for the backgrounds / environments? Did you make them yourself in blender or something, or did you buy them?

I make CK using Koikatsu (available on Steam) which has no official licensing agreements but the parent company has publicly stated that they're happy for indie devs to use their assets (and have even defended devs against their own distributor in the past!). This means you can't put your game up on Steam if you decide to go this route, however - just something to bear in mind!
Awesome! I am indeed using Koikatsu for the characters, but I was unaware that scenes can be made too?
If that's the case, then do you just use Koikatsu for all assets and animations? If so that would help tremendously.
It's a shame I can't draw or 3D model to save my life because I'd love to get really creative with the art style of the game haha!
