You need more grit points. 1 point for each difficulty point of the enemy (grit points are fists in the top left, difficulty is skulls above enemies).
You get a higher max by leveling up.
Enemies don't respawn when I kill them and their corpses just lay there and occasionally start moving around again - Is there a way to manually level myself up?
