I like the missions, cuz they split the game up into more enjoyable chunks. Also the noises the enemies make are super useful. However I got stuck after a couple stages because I was pretty bad at gauging how far away the enemies were from me. Maybe a big circle on the ground around you could help gauge distance. But overall it's quite fun!
