To follow up with, Ghryst’s comment, if you’re ok with using the Terminal app, macOS “.app files” are really just specialized folders, so you can use command-line tools like rsync
to update all the newer files. I’d only recommend it if you’re still having trouble with the update.
Remember, macOS is built on top of an offshoot of FreeBSD, so many of the tools for it also work for your Mac.
