Your fix for the "VPGrid Not Full" error seems to work, DaFlyinHawYn! At least for the current 8.1.1 Ren'Py release.

I found another small error on line 89 of the all-messages.rpy file. You have to swap out MC for player_name or the included example game will crash.

I have made a few changes (unreleased as yet) that fixed the VPGrid error and a few others things, I just need to clean it all up and finish testing it, but I need more than 24 hours in a day to be able to do everything I need to do every day...
